I was intrigued to receive an invitation from Marshal Zeringue to write a post for the Page 99 blog. The test, Marshal explained, is simple: “Is Ford Madox Ford’s statement ‘Open the book to page ninety-nine and read, and the quality of the whole will be revealed to you, accurate for your book?”
Slightly nervously, I turned to page 99 of Extreme, and was delighted that it fell firmly in the middle of the three chapters we devote to the important social psychological issues relevant to extreme environments (solitude, other people, and teamwork). Even better, it included one of my favourite stories from Extreme, the Sverdrup 2000 expedition.
Find out more in my post, which went up a couple of days ago.
